I called to make an appt for my cat and front desk wanted $175. up front before you walk in the door. I was surprised and I said so, and the woman immediately hung up on me! I called back and asked why she hung up on me with a lame excuse. I am guessing she is so tired of people responding negatively to the policy that she can't take it anymore. What kind of doctor has this policy? A greedy one.
Business response:
I’m sorry you feel that way. It is a standard policy across the medical field. Your card would would not be charged unless you did not come in for your pet’s office visit. As one of the few veterinary hospitals in the area still accepting new clients, or booking multiple pet appointments, we need to ensure that our doctors are protected from no call/no show people. We have clients on waiting lists to see us, so we need to make sure that everyone understands the importance of keeping your office visit.
Horrible staff. Horrible customer care. TBD animal care - left unresolved? Wouldn't recommend to a soul. DO NOT GO HERE
Business response:
Ms. Spencer, maybe you would have received better customer care if you had not screamed at my senior receptionist calling her a #@%&ing liar that was #@%&ing lying to your face and that we are all #@%&ed up because we did not have any appointment availability for non-emergencies for several days. You were advised to seek emergency care if you were that worried. You were then in today for an allergy injection that the doctor recommended and were extremely rude once again. This is why we terminated our relationship with you... read more
I have been to this place with my golden retriever several times as this is the closest vet to my home. I really tried to love it. Front office staff couldn't care less about your pet, your time nor wallet. On couple occasions there had been a calculation mistake made and we got charged more. After trying to understand the charges we did catch an error in billing but the front office staff just made "a face" and refunded the amount of the service -- not the tax. Another time I called in to order a medication and I was t... read more
Business response:
Today our practice was completely booked. We are trying to serve as many patients as we can, while protecting our clients and staff while adhering to social distancing protocols. Our staff and talented doctors were maxed out. The best we could offer you was a next day appointment, as an ear infection isn’t a true medical emergency. Very sorry we couldn’t serve your needs on demand. Very glad to hear you got your baby taken care of somewhere else.
This center is terrible. The reviews are correct. They have the worst doctors and also the worst customer service. They are always running late. On top of that, they are liars and they overcharge to treat your pets. We recently brought our dog in for a check on an ear infection. They didn't use a scope, they didn't do a thorough inspection. After 5 minutes the doctor said the dog was fine and wanted to upcharge us to clean his ears. I called and spoke to the owner to express my dissatisfaction and she told me that the doctor... read more
Business response:
Let's be clear. You brought your dog in for a recheck for an ear infection treated at another hospital. You didn't want to pay for a recheck at our hospital when your pet was originally treated elsewhere. When I spoke to you, the first complaint was that we weren't open on Sundays, so it's our fault that you had to go elsewhere. The second complaint was that we expected you to pay for our doctor's time. The third complaint was that we didn't "scope" your dog's ears. The doctor looked at the ears and it was obvious that... read more
I gave them a third chance and I AM SOOOOO disaappinted. It's simple- do the right thing. Make the furry guy better. Take your $ incentive out of it and provide good service. This place is a rip off. A business more than a health clinic. Took my dog back because his issues weren't completely solved by my other vet and I reallllly wanted to like this place. They were so close and the vet was so friendly to him. And SMPMC, they let me down. Everything is an up-sell opportunity to them. My dog did well with an allergy pill... read more
I wish I can give this BUSINESS 0 stars. This place is nothing but a business. They don't care about your fur babies, just your wallet. I am beyond disappointed and frankly beside myself with my first and last experience at the Santa Monica Medical Center. The technician that came into the room did not know how to handle a dog I really wish I knew her name (short black hair, & glasses) because she should not work with animals if gets SO annoyed with them. As my dog was excited she told him' okay that's enough licking' - W... read more
I just wanted to express how upset I am with SMPMC for being partially responsible for my cat's illness. As a healthcare provider I understand patients need to be seen in order to monitor and fill their medication. I recently dropped her vial of insulin on the floor and called to get a refill- the assistant and physician would not fill it because she had not been seen in a year or more. However, this clearly was an urgent and unique matter. I was unable to get to the vet's office that day or in the next few days (due to work... read more
Business response:
I am sorry this happened to you. But, it is illegal for us to prescribe a prescription for any patient that has not been seen in one year. It is called the veterinary-client-patient relationship. It is the same law that applies to human physicians. I'm glad that, while you were unable to bring your cat into our hospital, that you managed to get her into another hospital in time.
This is a veterinary practice for the well-heeled. Heaven forbid you wish to use an online discount pharmacy to avoid the high costs of SMPMC's dispensary. Their internal communication is simply awful, resulting in the client's being told one thing by their veterinarian and quite another by the front end staff (my issue involved prescriptions and refills written in the chart and trying to get SMPMC to act on those prescriptions from our vet). After some days of trying to get prescriptions filled, if you let your frustration ... read more
A few years ago I would probably have rated them higher. Everytime I go in I'm seeing a different vet, than the last time so there is not the continuity of a vet who knows your pet. Prices have gotten astronomical, as well as wait times with an appointment, and they make you do tests that in all honesty are not always required in my opinion. I recently called for an appt, saying my dog was sick and could they get me in. They wanted me to wait 4 days-----no thank you, after being a customer for 18 years, and having just sp... read more
