Where experience matters. Family Owned and Operated. Santa Monica Pet Medical Center has been serving the Westside since 1961. Our doctors and senior staff have been with us, on average, for over 15 years. That's experience and dedication that you're not going to find at any other hospital. We only schedule 30 minute appointments so that you and your doctor can have a complete, un-rushed conversation about your pet's health. We are family owned and operated. That means that we make our own decisions about what treatment plan... read more

The worst experience Addopted a new puppy and brought him in for a round of shots which ended up costing me $240 for my 'first puppy visit'. At the appt I was told to bring back a stool sample as part of the puppy check. I drove out of my way with the sample and when I arrived, they told me to pay another $75 - even though the vet directly told me this was included. The front desk was rude, aggressive and then told me they weren't going to send it for testing and the Vet 'spoke incorrectly'. I don't know why but decide... read more
WOW! The overall rating looks so good 4 stars and 204 reviews; But recent reviews have similar issues and complaints and expose the disaster this place has become. I have loved this clinic for over 30 years but what is here now is NOTHING like was once was here. I agree Be very cautious. Something is VERY WRONG here; In fact, I strongly suggest you find another vet clinic! I rarely write reviews but the last few experiences I have had have been overwhelmingly crazy. what you can expect: They will not be through in exami... read more
This is not a complaint about the vet, it's about the front desk staff. First I got a call about a stool sample for another dog. Then when there for my cat, the vet tech who was sweet, appeared dazed and couldn't give me straight answers about the timing of my cats shots. Today I requested my dog's medical records and the attitude of the girl I spoke with - she does not belong in a position like that. I felt something off after that first call but there is NO WAY these people are treating my animals ever again.
The quality of the care in the exam room is good, but it breaks down when they dispense the wrong medication and then treat you like you've done something wrong. This has happened twice. The first time I was given half of the antibiotics I should have gotten, and the infection returned. Today I tried to return the wrong dosage of Nexgard, and because I used the one taped on top without realizing, then when I opened the box and recognized that they were too small and gave my dog two pills because I didn't have time to go in r... read more
I have been to a variety of vets in my several decades of dog and cat ownership, and having worked in rescue, and I have never been treated as rudely by front desk staff as I have at Pet Med. It's so over-the-top it's absurd. In particular there is one woman, Robin, who literally will see you one week, and when you walk in the next week she says, "And you are?" I should clarify that I have never been even slightly rude to these people, on the contrary. I've never questioned a bill or had any conflict. But for some reaso... read more
I had a similar situation to Jenni S.'s review quote: "I received the most disgusting, shocking letter from the SM Pet Medical Center that they were terminating us as a client (?!) We have been loyal customers for 10 years and have spent a fortune trying to handle a difficult situation and instead of working with us, they placed judgment on us, ignored us and openly blamed us for their own terrible communication, lackluster customer service and overall negligence. When I called to ask them about the nasty letter I receiv... read more
We have been coming here for 3 years, but I think we have had our last visit. The prices here are INSANE. We have spent over $40,000 (not here) in emergency surgeries, chemotherapy, you name it, for our dogs, so this review is not from someone who even thinks about money when it comes to our dogs well being, but for routine visits, I find this place insulting. My last two experiences here look like this: 1. Dog got a pebble in between his paw pads that he picked it until it became raw and couldn't walk on it. Brought him i... read more
I am a local Santa Monica psychotherapist and mom of three in the West LA area. We have been with Pet Medical Center for almost 10 years and a patient of Dr. George's. During this time we have been mostly happy, although we were always a bit suspect of the extremely high charges and unnecessary tests they began suggesting for our pets as the years went by. I understand there was new owners who took over in 2011...We are big animal lovers and have six wonderful pets, mostly rescues. Recently my son adopted two kittens from th... read more
Awful place VERY FRUSTRATING TO DEAL WITH - especially knowing our dog was on palliative care because with a 70% rate of malignancy and metastatic cancer from liver mass surgery would not buy her enough time... they seemed to just dump us since we werent $$$. HORRIBLE rude front office & 2 Dr's REFUSED to treat or look at my dog who was treated by Dr. hernandez who doesnt work on the weekend. STAFF Refused to help telling me to go to an e.r. because they were closing and would not take 5 minutes to see her. By the ... read more
