Let me start off by saying that my dog was harmed by his previous vet. February 2016 my sweet Oliver was diagnosed with anal gland cancer and was told he had zero chance of survival. I have done a lot of research and put a lot of energy into saving my dogs life. I left my previous vet. and was lucky enough to find Dr. Ashbran who is extremely knowledgeable and was willing to work with a more holistic approach that I have chosen for my dog. Last week Dr. Ashbran found some thing in my dog's anal gland. He told me what he thou... read more

Business response:

Cheryl, this review means so much to all of us here at Newport Harbor Animal Hospital. First and most importantly, we are so happy that Oliver is ok, and that you can breathe a sigh of relief. That is so wonderful, and we are glad that we could be there for you during such a stressful and emotional time. We completely understand how scary a situation like that can be. Second, we truly appreciate your compassion and patience with the staff, and how busy we have become with the changes covid has caused. We are looking forward ... read more

Its a bummer that they have gone so far down hill. Not sure what has happened over the last 1 - 1.5 years here but they are so mis-managed and totally un-organized. I have been a customer of theirs for 9 or so years and had LOVED to go there but after having yet another super frustrating experience we are done. I am sure there are plenty of customers will LOVE this place as I had, so this review is just what I experienced. Here are the issues we have had over the last 1-1.5 years, you make up your mind if you want your do... read more

Business response:

Joe, Per our conversation this afternoon, over the past year and a half we have done everything we can to stay open to provide care for our patients. COVID has brought new challenges and we have continued to do our best to evolve with all the changes.  We always do our best to prioritize cases, and we stand behind caring for critical emergencies before stepping aside to bring boarders out to go home. We communicated this with you last night and the staff let you know the manager was unavailable due to needing to help with t... read more

Want to be turned away when your animal is having an emergency? Then this is your place. If I could give 0 stars I would. My dog has been going to the vet at Newport Harbor Animal Hospital since she was very young and today we had an unfortunate emergency with her. We called Newport Harbor Animal Hospital in hopes of bringing her in right away and we were TURNED AWAY. We were told that they could not see her. We then spent 30 minutes calling and driving around to multiple different animal emergency hospitals. In scary and em... read more

Business response:

Sarah, we hope that your pet was able to receive the care needed and that everything is okay. Unfortunately, sometimes we do need to turn away emergencies (which is not very common) when we have reached maximum capacity, and we cannot put more on our staff and doctors. Quality care is our number one priority, especially in an emergency situation, but need the manpower to be able to do so. We are not an emergency hospital, but we do our best to see emergencies when we are able to. We understand that when an emergency happen... read more

Not a fan of this place at all. If you have an aussie, collie, or whippet I highly recommend going to another vet that is more compassionate and knowledgeable of MDR1 sensitivity in your breed. Took my mini aussie here for his 2nd round of shots. When I scheduled the appointment, I said "he is due for his 2nd round of shots, need a fecal test, and talk to the dr regarding my concerns with the flea/tick/heartworm medication with MDR1 sensitivity". I didn't know I had to specify his shots. Most vet offices understand "my dog n... read more

Business response:

To all owners concerned about MDR-1 sensitivity in their dogs and safety of flea/tick prevention, we would like to encourage you to read this excellent research article (not just a google search or popular opinions) on that very topic. It is available for viewing online, 'Safety of fluralaner, a novel systemic anti-parasitic drug, in MDR 1 (-/-) CFollies after oral administration.' Walther FM, et al. Parasites and Vectors 7, article 86(2014): Cliff notes for those who don't intend to read the whole article- fluralaner (Br... read more
