I love Santa Monica Pet Medical Center so much. My cat & I saw Dr. Katherine Hillebrand very regularly for my senior cat for a year & the only reason we're leaving is because I'm moving out of Southern California. Dr. Hillebrand is kind, accessible to questions by phone & email, very knowledgeable and genuinely adores animals. She breaks complicated issues down and helps you really learn more about your pet and their health. She also caught my cat's cancerous tumor and I will forever be grateful to her. I was really scared and cautious when I came in due to the recent reviews. But I had a pleasant and very normal experience. I had recently adopted a 7.5 year old dog and brought him in for a full exam. Dr Hernández was very pleasant and seemed to really care. She did recommend a few products which others could see as an upsell but I felt they were logical recommendations based on my dog's health concerns. Switching to this Vet was one of the best decisions we ever made! We switched to SMPMC when we moved to the Santa Monica area and couldn't be happier. It has been night and day in terms of our experience as compared to our last Vet experience. The Vets, Techs, Front Desk staff at Santa Monica Pet Medical Center are extremely kind, supportive and expert. Started bringing my 7 year old lab here after the local VCA never had any appointments available. The front desk is friendly and specifically, Dr. O'Donnell has been just wonderful. My dog has a history of cancer and had a recent scare and she has called to follow up and check on him more than any other general vet we've had. She answers all my questions and addresses my concerns and seems very knowledgeable. Often times she calls after 6 pm which shows me that she really cares and wants what is best for my fur baby. I could not be more pleased with my experience today. I noticed a hematoma on my dog's ear on a Sunday night. My regular vet said the first available appointment was in 12 days, so I called around to find somewhere to see her sooner. SMPMC had an appointment available on Monday. The staff was pleasant, the vet was knowledgeable and kind, and they treated my dog in the exam room with me so she would be more comfortable and not be around other dogs, as she's fearful. We recently had a wonderful experience at Pet Medical with Dr. Williams, who is new to the center and has an impressive background. My cat was presenting with vomiting and diarrhea. Tests were performed (Pet Medical always gives me a printout of the estimate before they proceed). It was pancreatitis. Follow-up appointment has been made. We've been coming here for 10 years and have never been treated rudely by staff, or overcharged, or made to wait weeks for an appointment, as some reviewers claim. When our beloved veterinarian Dr. Graham retired she highly recommended Santa Monica Pet Medical Center for our future veterinary needs. I clearly remember Dr. Graham's mentioning about this veterinary center's principle of never putting their profit over the pet's welfare -though at that time I did not realized how important that factor was. We're so grateful for Dr. Hillebrand & the super kind staff at Santa Monica Pet Medical Center. Our sweet Alfie had extreme teeth chattering & the doctor agreed to see Alfie in between other patients at 4:30 pm on a Saturday night (they close at 6:00). Dr. Hillebrand was friendly, a good communicator, caring, and sent Alfie home with pain meds until his upcoming teeth cleaning. Thank you to everyone there! We have taken Alfie for care for the past 8 years intermittently, and have always had great experiences.
