The Drake Center is the BEST vet in San Diego! We have driven all over to see vets for our Bernese Mountain Dogs only to be disappointed every time, until we came upon the Drake Center. Their service and care is unparalleled to any of the countless vets we have been to before. First impressions are everything and we were so impressed from the very start! We found the Drake Center on-line when we were searching for a state of the art vet to perform our boys' neutering surgery. I loved their website, the abundance of informati... read more
Very disappointed with Drake. We took both of our dogs there for a few years and were pleased with the service and staff despite the elevated pricing. Our dog started having some problems and our visits were more frequent with the same result and extremely high expenses. It was clear that she wasn't get any better so we went to two other vets for second opinions. Both vets said we were being extremely over overcharged and that they would take the same different treatment plan to move forward. When I called Drake to explain t... read more
If you have a pet that you love and are looking for the best possibly veterinary care, look to The Drake Center. We have had the privilege of having them treat our dogs and cats for almost 20 years. Dr. Shotwell lovingly cared for our late dog and two cats. She provided excellent medical treatment, compassionate care to our family and has always been professional, energetic and truly concerned about our well-being and that of our pets. Now that we have a new puppy, Dr. Shotwell and the amazing team of techs and front office ... read more
We took our Golden in for grooming. If they bathed her, it was superficial. Her undercarriage was not trimmed as requested, and she still smelled like she rolled in something. We contacted Drake to express our concerns and never received a response. As for vet services, we put this same dog through a battery of tests at Drake and were given a few costly options that did not seem to address the problem. When we took her back for routine shots, we were asked if she was better. We said she wasn't so they pushed for additional e... read more
I was a vet tech for 8 years before I moved to the west coast. Obviously, I am going to be VERY particular about where our 4 dogs (and our foster dogs) go. I tend to "test" vets by having a treatment plan before I go in and then seeing what they recommend. Especially after working in a dermatology practice for years and then taking our new boxer there for treatment for a severe case of demodex mange (we had just adopted him from a shelter in LA)....it was one of our first visits and I was definitely waiting to see what the v... read more
As a Professional Dog Trainer I'm asked daily about which Veterinary services I recommend . I can always feel comfortable recommending the Drake Center. They're Vets are top notch and all the staff truly loves there job. That's by far a good indicator of the kind of place this is. My dogs are everything to me and I only trust them in the care of true professionals , the Drake Center gets 14 paws up from me and my pack.
Do not take your cat here! They misdiagnosed both of my cats. My female died prematurely from chronic kidney failure--they said she was "stable" when actually she was getting worse. My male, who they were treating (or mistreating) at the same time, stopped eating and lost 7 lbs while the Drake vet ran the same blood test over and over. I finally brought them both to a cat-only vet who was shocked. He immediately diagnosed my male cat with IBD and began meds and a different diet--he improved significantly and lived for anothe... read more
Best. Vet. Ever!!! Dr. Kovac is the vet I wish I had known my whole life. We have found our 'home' at The Drake Center and will forever bring all of our animals to this office! Amazing, knowledgable, friendly staff; a clean, state-of-the-art facility and reasonable pricing. Super stoked!!!
This place cares far more about peddling meds and shilling shampoo than it does about animals. My previous vet had been monitoring a growth on my dog's leg and when it got bigger, I went to the Drake Center, since we recently moved to Encinitas. All of a sudden, the surgery needed to be done ASAP or else the dog would need skin grafts. I immediately scheduled surgery (even though we were dealing with a family emergency), which went well at first. Then my dog started to lick himself raw above the surgery site, which was wrapp... read more
