I took one of my cats to the Drake Center after reading some the reviews here. We had been going to VCA but I found it over priced, unprofessional and overall more of a business then a caring vet. The Drake Center was awesome! I appreciated everyone's patience with my vocal kitty. The office is clean and professional. I also strongly agree with many of the reviews here, Dr. Boehme was great. Highly recommend.

I recently moved to Encinitas from CA. I brought my dog here for her annual vaccinations and this place is a joke. My dog has allergies and was sneezing. They told me she probably had a fox tail up her nose and they couldn't tell by looking up her nose. So, they advised that I immediately have her go into surgery. They wanted to put her under full Anesthesia and to do a nasal scope. However they never even looked up her nose so they weren't guaranteeing that was the problem. Then they kept pressuring me to make a decision qu... read more

Business response:

Dear Laura, I sincerely apologize that you had a bad experience. Foxtails are a common problem in our area and potential inhalation (most commonly displayed through sneezing) is something that needs to be handled quickly. Unfortunately, complete anesthesia is needed to look up into the nasal cavity. If the foxtail is not retrieved, it will continue to irritate the canal and cause more severe sneezing. Bleeding may also occur, which then makes it impossible to see anything. It is important our clients have a good expe... read more

I would like to provide a glowing report of the Drake Center. In the 5 years that I have been taking my 2 senior cats there, I have interacted with 1/2 of the vets in this practice, many of the techs and all of the front-desk staff. Dr. Kathy Boehme is one of the most caring, committed and compassionate vets I have ever encountered. Upon our first visit, she connected immediately with my cats and me and has given great care and attention ever since. Dr. B is the kind of professional who will call you from home on her day of... read more

I have been here once for an emergency visit (puppy stung by a bee and swelled up w/hives = 1st anaphylactic shock). We called ahead and they met us at the door as it was a pretty serious situation at the time. The techs, vets and front desk staff were all really great. They didn't push any meds that we didn't need but they were a bit pricey but I think most 'city' vets are. updated 3/2013 I've likely met nearly every vet in this office due to emergency visits as my dog has a fatal Bee allergy and goes into severe anaphylact... read more

i've been coming to the drake center for some time. i like a couple of the vets i've been to but sometimes i really do feel this place pushes meds on you. i also was very upset with my last visit. they told me my pet was due for a stool sample. he has been having normal poops forever so did not feel it was necessary at this time to bring one in. i told them i would bring one in at some other time. when he came back from getting his routine vaccination they explained they went ahead and manually took a stool sample. i was rea... read more

My 12 year old dog and were seen here by vet . Aaron Lamoree, DVM. He did an exam that left my dog so lame that she could not get up the next day. He recommended sedation and x-rays to determine if she has arthritis. He could not diagnosis her nor treat her without blood test with repeat every 6 months. His Rx J/D diet. I feel he did an abusive exam and the only concern was to inflate the bill. Please do not take any animal you care about to this vet.
