Finding the right hospital with the right doctors is not always an easy task. At Hickory, we realize the frustration many pet owners feel when choosing a veterinary hospital. So we decided to make it easy for our clients. We took a primary care veterinary hospital with dedicated general practitioners and added experienced specialists in surgery, oncology, cardiology, radiology, ophthalmology, rehabilitation and acupuncture. Then we went one step further and made the medical facility open 7 days a week, 365 days a year from 7... read more

Get directionsI took my 2 rescues there for several years yes they are expensive but my dogs are family. Unfortunately when it came time to put my Shih Tzu, Moose, to sleep I made arrangements to have a Vet come to my house. I wanted my guy to have a peaceful and pain free passing. they showed up an hour late then told me they didn't normally give an animal a sedative before the shot. All of my dogs over the last 30 years were given sedative first because all the different vets agreed the shot is painful. I should have had them leave but ... read more
Don't bring your pet here. Unfortunately, it was an emergency and on a Sunday, and our vet was closed. Hickory has young and inexperienced vets, they are very expensive and unresponsive. My wife saw Dr. Amanda Steinagel, on 1/3/16, the day our 16 year old Jack Russel had been attacked by a Pit Bull. She prescribed an antibiotic and a sedative orally. Knowing our dog, my wife felt it would be difficult to administer the medications orally, and asked Dr Steinagel to prescribe in pill form. Amanda said she already mixed the ora... read more
I took my dog Myles here today as an emergency visit after he took his first seizure. The staff was wonderful. We saw Dr DelGiudice. He was excellent with our very frightened pup and gaining Myles trust. He was careful and kind with him. His medical opinion on Myles was honest and comforting. The cost of testing was clear on our end before it was done. Great experience for a very scary situation. Worth the cost of an emergency visit.
My husband and I have taken our dog here for almost three years . Yes , they are expensive , but considering the good care we received during our dogs first few seizures and throughout the course of his epilepsy treatment , we've always felt they were worth the price. (We also appreciate the 24 hr emergency care , and have unfortunately needed to use it a few times for our little guy). Needless to say, we've shelled out quite a lot of dough to Hickory, but we very much value quality in care and service and have always been a... read more
I recently brought my cat to Hickory for a mastectomy, under the care of Dr. Brown. The level of care my cat received was exceptional. The staff and vets were all very friendly, kind and professional. Hickory allowed me come in and visit my cat to comfort her, and bring her in her favorite treats to make her stay more comfortable. Dr. Brown kept me updated on my cat's condition throughout her surgery and recovery. She was upfront with pricing and provided me with accurate estimates of costs throughout the process. Hickory's... read more
I would love to know why the most legitimate reviews are not "recommended" and therefore not counted in the overall average. This place is shameful. They have no compassion and they use the emotions of the loved ones to manipulate to get as much money as possible, as quickly as possible. I am concerned about the validity of yelp if the legitimate reviews have been removed. Did they use the extra money that they charge to pay for better reviews? I would never recommend this place to anyone who truly cares about the well being... read more
I had a 9:30 appointment .It's 10:30 and I still haven't seen the vet. They finally put me in a room at 10, when I went up and asked them how much longer .I wouldn't complain if this was a one off, but the last 2 times I've been here I've waited at least 20 minutes. Great staff and nice place but my time is important too.
This place is all about money. I brought my dog in when she was sick one evening and it costs me $2500 in tests and Benadryl to take her home 20 hours later. I love my dog and want to make sure she gets care if she needs it, but this experience was akin to having the manager try to "close" you as you try to leave the car dealership. "Blood, X-ray and ultrasounds are normal, so we should do another chest X-ray and keep an eye on for another two days ($240/ day). Look elsewhere unless it's absolutely dire. Also curious that al... read more
I chose Hickory Vet Hospital to come to my home for a euthanasia house call. I want to commend the team from Hickory Vet on their superior display of compassion, love, and professionalism today. Dr Slavick and Marsella came out for an in home euthanasia visit with my almost sixteen year old boy Dozer. The compassion displayed was more than I could've hoped for, their knowledge and bedside manner were excellent, and their respect for Dozer before, during, and after were heartwarming. I would recommend Dr Slavick and Marsell... read more
