I would absolutely discourage anyone from bringing an animal to this place. I have had the pleasure of caring for many animals in my time, and never have I encountered a vet so much more concerned with their profit than for the wellbeing of their patients. Jessica Wilbourne, the late-night intern, resorted to scare tactics and refused to even clean my cat's giant, gaping wound without a hefty fee, despite the fact that he was already under sedation and shaved. You must be rich because all they see is $$$ when you walk in with a sick animal. On my first pet, they upsold us unnecessary, but costly treatments, but at least he got well. The second pet, turned out to have something terminal. Of course that wasn't mentioned until we spent almost a thousand on treatment. After tests, we found out the truth and they were stunned that we wouldn't put her through more costly tests and surgery. I've taken all 3 of my dogs to Hickory over the past few years for a variety of medical issues. However, after my most recent experience at Hickory with my beloved dog, I'll never go back there. I do not have any faith in the medical care we received from the physicians (we saw 3 different doctors and an intern in a 5-day period). Furthermore, I feel that in some cases the bedside manner they showed us as owners was bordering on rude. Last week our cat had the unfortunate presence of mind to eat a polyester carpet fiber. No, it didn't go down easy and unfortunately became roped around his tongue as well as causing a blockage. We were recommended by our normal vet to go to UPENN but decided since there was favorable reviews on yelp.com, we would use the local option, Hickory. Don't bring your pet here if you have a choice. I had an emergency situation with my pet and brought it here on a Sunday night. They gave me a price range between $3,200 and $5,800 for emergency surgery. They gave me a contract with these figures, but in the fine print it said that the final cost could be 25% higher, which the vet never mentioned. The team at Hickory took great care of our beagle Honey - helping her stay with us thru 15 years. They were also compassionate enough to let us know when it was time to let her go. Whether it was routine shots and checkups, a late nite emergency visit or a stay in the hospital, they always treated us professionally and kindly.

This place is the best- but you pay more for the best. I took my cat here for a check up in January and took her back in April when she didn't seem like herself. She was very sick and they offered me lots of options to help figure out why- but honestly they were all fairly pricey options. I went to another vet in my area and got almost the same options for a slightly lower price. If you have the money, this place is amazing.

Let me just say that after my last veterinary clinic which was super dirty and the lead male vet walked around without a shirt... this was like a dream! The facility is so clean and really big! It is full of light, spacious and all of the people working there are very nice! Do not take your pet to Hickory Animal Hospital. How do you explain that 6 different doctors examined my pet over many days and weeks and failed to properly diagnosis? They ran test after test and thousands of dollars later they sent him home telling me that he would be okay. I knew he was not feeling well so I took him to another animal hospital.
