About this business

HealthcareVeterinarians

Finding the right hospital with the right doctors is not always an easy task. At Hickory, we realize the frustration many pet owners feel when choosing a veterinary hospital. So we decided to make it easy for our clients. We took a primary care veterinary hospital with dedicated general practitioners and added experienced specialists in surgery, oncology, cardiology, radiology, ophthalmology, rehabilitation and acupuncture. Then we went one step further and made the medical facility open 7 days a week, 365 days a year from 7... read more

Our experience with Hickory was anything but positive. Our first impression when arriving was good, but after the first night, things started going downhill. When we asked to speak with the Doctor, we were told she does not meet with patients but will do a telephone consultation. We accepted this and waited nervously for the call. After a three hour wait, we called again and the Doctor said she never got our first message and rushed us throught the consultation. She seemed to not have read the previous hospital's diagnostic ... read more

I have to say that Hickory has also been very good to our cat. I brought him in for the first time on an emergency basis, and the staff could not be more compassionate. The vet tech actually got down on the floor with the cat and examined him before taking him into a private room for further checkup. The ER visit is not cheap, in fact its even more that we co pay for ourselves at the ER, but you are paying for a specialized service. Sad to say, but vets are always expensive to matter where you go. We were so happy with the E... read more

This place sucks. One of the neighborhood feral cats I've been feeding had a litter of five. One of the five got very sick, and it was very apparent she was in the throes of death. I called Hickory to inquire about the euthanasia fee. They want to charge $300 for emergency & euthanasia fees combined. If I had the money I would have gone through with it, so the poor kitten wouldn't suffer. Hickory is not at all up with the times, they have NO partial payments or monthly plans, they want ALL monies right away. It's policies li... read more

My cat had an accident, I am new to the area and after calling the closest vet they referred me to Hickory run. I was pleased there was a 24/7 ER close by because the cut was huge and bleeding. Hickory run said I could come right over so I did. I was left waiting for over 30 minutes in the waiting room and then an additional 45 in the exam room. When I went to pick him up, the cost was over what the original high estimate was, and then they told me that they would need to pull his tooth as well, or an additional $550-1,047. ... read more

Our regular vet who we highly respect and trust told us to consider Hickory for an ultrasound and the subsequent surgery for our cat. The ultrasound was fine. They quoted a price upfront so we knew what to expect. The doctor was kind and informative. The best I can say overall however is I guess this place is better than letting your pet suffer. Make sure you request quotes, keep your expectations low as to the professionalism and compassion of the staff, and anticipate sloppy stitches, if that's the end result. The subseque... read more

The folks at Hickory have been very kind and compassionate with my animals. I go to them first when there's an emergency, even though they are a $50 cab ride away and UPenn vet school is a 5 minute walk. Triage is faster than Penn, services are much cheaper, and staff and vets are much more personable and kind. Most recently, my housemate took our foster cat in with a urinary problem. He was treated quickly, competently, and compassionately, and Hickory sent information about his visit to PAWS (the organization we foster for... read more

I will never take my dogs here again. I brought my lab in because of limping. They couldn't figure out what was wrong with him so they wanted to do blood tests for Lyme disease and all other issues...also wanted to give him general anesthesia to X-ray right leg. bill was inching towards 500 dollars with no idea what was wrong with him. I left, took him to Metropolitin in Trooper. Great staff. they immediately conferred it was limping due to a ligament issue..did x rays without anesthesia and knew upon exam it was his Left le... read more

I am sorry to read the previous commenters that didn't get good service. However, we had great and heartfelt service. On Thursday, 2/16, our dog, a chihuahua mix, got attacked by two pit bulls. (It's not the pit's fault, it's the damn owner's fault for not having them on leash and be a pack leader.) Anyway, my husband called them and let them know we were coming and let them know what had happened. When I got there, they took our dog back immediately with no wait, for obvious reasons. Anyway, they were fast paced and were on... read more

I've been meaning to post this for a little while now, but I just need to sing the praises of the staff at Hickory. A stray dog "found me", as they say, who needed a lot of vet care right off the bat due to his former life wandering the streets. He needed to be neutered still, and the vet that I take my cats to was going to charge upwards of $800 for the neutering because it was complicated (one undescended testicle, 2 incisions, overnight stay, etc). This was a lot of money to put up while "between jobs" so I looked into ot... read more
