Get directionsDebra Eisenstein, VMD, PhD, is the type of vet you hope treats your pets. She is smart, insightful, and caring. We've visited with her for regular check ups and for more serious issues. She cuts right to the chase, offers comprehensive descriptions of the issues, and plans out an thorough course of action. She is the best. The rest of Hckory's crew is pleasant, cheerful and courteous. They are eager to ensure the experience is as pleasant as can be when your pets would rather be outside rolling around in squirrel poop... Hic... read more
We have taken our pets here for about 2 years now. I would like to break down into good and bad points about this hospital. First the good: 1:Somone always answers the phone promptly 24/7 and is able to help you reach the Drs/other staff if needed 2: Someone is always at the desk to greet you. 3: The facility is spotless and there is ample space in the waiting areas 4: The emergency service is very prompt, I still recommend calling ahead if possible so they expect you and the triage tech is ready to get your pet where they n... read more
I've been taking my 3 dogs here for the past few years, and with the exception of the front desk, they are awesome. The prices are a little high but I would rather have a vet close by with an emergency clinic then have to find one in a pinch. In any case, the doctors are great and seem to really care about the animals. Actually all of the staff there is great and the only reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5, is the front desk. Just be aware, if you decide to go to this vet, make sure you follow up on EVERYTHING. I called ... read more
There are many pros about Hickory Veterinary Hospital such as the extremely competent doctors especially Dr. Koch, the opthomologist, and the cleanliness of the facility. I am confident that my French Bulldogs receive the best possible care. My only negative review is the lack of respect for your appointment time since I usually have to wait 30 + minutes to see the doctors and the gals at the front desk can be a little terse at times.
My 1.5 year old chocolate lab mix has been severely sick now twice in her short life and both times, I've taken her to Hickory for emergency treatment. I took her to Hickory when I first got her from the rescue group because they had great reviews on Yelp and because it was close to home. The two times she has been hospitalized, they have been great. They take her right away and have nursed her back to health both times. They haven't been able to figure out what is causing her sickness both times, but I don't believe that is... read more
When my pet became lethargic, I took her to Hickory because they were really good with her in the past. The doctors and techs have been kind to her (and me). They are experienced and the diagnostics that they have available are stellar. They were able to diagnose her condition after ~2days of tests and offer some options for her serious condition. Recently, we resolved a very large bill. Here is my advice to everyone: Make sure to ask for a realistic estimate in addition to a short-term estimate based on condition type. Mak... read more
I was in an emergncy room in the hospital with my husband. my vet was not available. My cousin took my dog for me he seemed very sick. all these people did was give him a ct scan and exam and stated that he had a growth in his pelvic area and wanted to know if he was abused, which is totally wrong. The vet said his joints were painful. They ran blood work and it was ok. Was charged 100.00 for pils and the total bill was 645.00. I was told he need surgery to look inside his belly as soon as possible. I decided I would see m... read more
I would absolutely discourage anyone from bringing an animal to this place. I have had the pleasure of caring for many animals in my time, and never have I encountered a vet so much more concerned with their profit than for the wellbeing of their patients. Jessica Wilbourne, the late-night intern, resorted to scare tactics and refused to even clean my cat's giant, gaping wound without a hefty fee, despite the fact that he was already under sedation and shaved. My regular vet was flabbergasted, as are all of my animal-carin... read more
You must be rich because all they see is $$$ when you walk in with a sick animal. On my first pet, they upsold us unnecessary, but costly treatments, but at least he got well. The second pet, turned out to have something terminal. Of course that wasn't mentioned until we spent almost a thousand on treatment. After tests, we found out the truth and they were stunned that we wouldn't put her through more costly tests and surgery. There was no talk of putting her to sleep because her quality of life was compromised. I had enoug... read more
