Get directionsMy wife and I took our dog to the er at hickory for a possible block in her in intestine .After waiting just shy of 4 hours at a place that was not even crowded, they told us she had multiple blockages in her intestines. they quoted us a price and we agreed to have it done, upon completion of the surgery the actual total was at the high end of the quote and was over the high end by two hundred dollars. We had the surgery done there 2 years ago (my dog does not learn) so we asked for some help on the bill they said they would ... read more
We took our cat to Hickory because of fluid in his abdomen & shortness of breath. They did some testing & said that his lungs needed to be drained. We waited in the lobby for over 2 hours & had to ask a staff member to find out what was going on with our cat. During the procedure, the cardiologist pricked our cat's heart, causing him to bleed to death. Before the procedure was done, the doctors told us that if our cat got agitated, that they would not proceed. We were not warned of the risks & they also told us that other an... read more
Warning, exuberant charges for vet care. This Vet hospital just charged me $ 500.00 to euthanize my dog. They should have disclosed their fee over the phone, horrible to be distraught than told you owe $ 500.00 and would you like to use your debit card. Horrible place.
When our 100 lb aging lab/shepard Dusty had severe, repeating seizures we could not transport him to our vet. Hickory staff came to pick him up and gave him great care and follow-up. When I came to visit he was all cleaned up and in great spirits. The staff were knowledgeable, caring and attentive both to Dusty and my needs. I couldn't believe how much time they spent with us. Dusty was discharged with a detailed evaluation along with suggestions for follow up care. Unfortunately several weeks later Dusty's condition had dec... read more
I first used Hickory over 14 years ago. A lot has changed since Dr. Brown did the surgeries in her small but cozy vet office. While the new hospital no doubt has many state-of-the-art features, prices have gone through the roof. You can go to Penn Vet Hospital and get the same treatment for half the price. Also, there's a lot of vet turnover and you never know really which vet you'll be seeing, just that you likely won't see them again. I prefer to have a vet who I know well and who knows my dog, not just whoever happens to ... read more
New to Yelp. But Not New to Hickory. A very bad establishment from my experience. My dog had an event a couple years ago, took him to the hospital, the doctor who took him in, was not the doctor who talked to me after the exam. The second doctor did not know the history and actually gave me wrong information on what needed to be done. My dog had to be put to sleep because of them not explaining to me properly what was actually occurring with my dog. I will never forget or forgive.
Warning: Do NOT allow your pet to be operated on here! I know of several dogs and cats who developed sepsis or MRSA during surgery and hospitalization and sadly never made it out of this place. The staff is friendly, and aside from overcharging on everything, is okay for routine care, but some of the vets are good practitioners, but I would not let the surgeons operate on a worm. PLEASE, for the sake of your pets lives, go to Penn or Metropolitan for surgery, do not let Hickory operate!!!!!!!
I have been using Hickory as my animal hospital for many years. I appreciate the variety of specialists and my ability to be seen quickly when it is required. Recently, I brought my dog in because of suspicion of heart problems only to discover he had a spinal problem. To make a long story short, Dr Brown and staff correctly diagnosed his condition, conducted his surgery, and nursed him back to health. A dog who suddenly had no use of the back half of his body now and take log walks and enjoy life. I cannot recommend them ... read more
Posing as an Emergency pet hospital???? This place is a horror and only a money machine that cares nothing about your animal. My Maine Coon Cat had a bleeding cyst/tumor on his back. I rushed him to this place for help. I am in the entertainment business and large bills are paid by my manager in NYC. They looked at him for 3 mins came back with a 1400.00 estimate and presented me with a 110.00 bill FOR AN OFFICE VISIT! They did not even do anything or try and stop the bleeding! I explained and had on the phone my manager to ... read more
