We took our senior kitty in for renal failure. Dr. Martinez was such a blessing. All of the staff is welcoming and personable. We received daily updates and were encouraged to stop by and visit during his stay in the hospital. He was released Friday after thoughtful and careful instructions on how to care for him at home. On Monday Dr. Martinez called just to check on him. I would recommend this clinic to anyone wanting their animal in the very best hands.

All I can say is "wow." The entire staff, from the ladies who checked us in to the veterinary assistant to the vet herself were all amazing. From the moment we walked in, the environment was professional, clean, friendly and courteous. Our cat had a regular vet, but suffered an injury that required an appointment the next day. Our regular vet was unable to see him, and I am honestly glad, because that led us to Northern Oaks, and Dr. Byrd. She and her staff were very knowledgeable and gentle, and they really took the time to... read more

If I could I would give this place ZERO STARS! I have an amazon yellow head parrot and before I had moved to San Antonio Frankie had been going to same Vet for years, when I moved to San Antonio I had no clue where to take him, I took him here. Bad mistake, BIG time! I will NEVER EVER take him back him here again, and if you love your bird you would stay away. I wish you could see the way his wings turned out, who ever did the clipping on his wings had no clue on what they were doing. The next VET in which is a specialist ... read more

Business response:

I am sorry you were dissatisfied with the wing trim your baby received. There are many methods for trimming wings and the method we utilize is recommended to us by the only board certified exotics specialist in San Antonio, who was also our exotics professor at Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine. Unfortunately, we see many "lost and found" birds with other wing trim methods because many of them still retain some flight. For this reason and for our bird patients' safety, the recommended method is the one we use. That be... read more

I have been using Northern Oaks for the past 12 years. Without Dr. Rebekah Byrd, my cat would have been dead years ago. I would not trust her care to anyone else.

I had to make the emotional decision to euthanize a dog we've had for the past 13 years. To make this decision more difficult, we have been searching for a new vet for a month or two as we had several poor experiences with our previous clinic and decided to leave that clinic. On Friday, June 28th, we called Northern Oaks AH and explained that we had made the decision to put one of our dogs down and wanted to see what services they had to offer. We were quoted $45 if they disposed of the ashes on their private lake or $115 if... read more

Business response:

We regret any miscommunication. Our goal is to be clear and compassionate with every case we see. We will strive to communicate more clearly that a cremation fee does not include the euthanasia procedure. We are very sorry for the difficulty this caused.

We have been bringing our dogs here for 14 years now. The staff has been exceptionally kind and courteous during the good and bad. Doctors Byrd & Vargo are wonderful. Highly recommend this to all pet owners!

This review is based off one bad experience at this hospital so I would urge anyone to go and try out the place - it is highly likely you will have a better experience than I did. However, my experience was not great, so I thought I should review. In short, I went to Northern Oaks with my dog and, first, my wait time was long; and then second, it was abundantly clear that the vet was afraid of my 42 lb Staffy. This scared vibe obviously oozed through to my dog (and we all know that dogs are emotion sponges) causing my dog to... read more

Business response:

We are a breed friendly hospital and do not refuse to see any specific breed. I regret that you felt that the practice was frightened of your baby. Ironically, I own two pit crosses myself and they are not only my best friends but they get along well with my children and kitties.

We have entrusted this vet with the care of our animals for 16 years. The owner, Dr. Bekah Byrd, has a knack for hiring competent, caring staff and associate vets. I feel comfortable with everyone there. The business uses EMRs for our pets so we can have access to their records at any time. Emails get sent to remind us of routine procedures. The staff always calls within a few days of an appointment or procedure to be sure our pet is doing OK, and if that isn't the case, we get a call back from a vet or tech within a day tel... read more

After shopping around for various vets that could handle my high anxiety dog, I found the doctors and staff at Northern Oaks. I've had vets tell me that my dog needs to be sedated to cut her nails!! The staff has a gentle way with animals and while my dog still puts up a fight, she always gets her nails trimmed--no sedation needed. I always get a phone call from them to check up after a visit with the doctor and they seem to really care about and love all kinds of animals with all kinds of issues. I am sad to be moving out o... read more
