I wish I could give zero stars as that is what this place deserves. I have been a client for many years, but things have gotten worse over the past few years. On our last visit to this animal hospital, I found the receptionist and staff to be rude. While we were waiting in a hot examining room, I was sweating and my poor elderly dog was panting. If I could give this place zero stars I would. To put it simply, don't bring your reptiles, or likely any animal, to this clinic. I took my bearded dragon Muggle, here after he seemed to lose his appetite for a bit. He appeared healthy and seemed active for the most part, so I honestly just assumed we would be in and out as more of a checkup. No so. Our vet thought bloodwork and an X-ray were necessary. I do not recommend this place to anyone or Dr Gonzalez. We are supposed to be going out of town and need to board our dogs. Therefore we needed Bordatella shots for them. We called around to check pricing for vets close to us. This place said we could drop by and they would give our dogs the shots and quoted us reasonable pricing so we set up an appointment a few days before we are leaving. I would perhaps call it unethical to hike prices up for animals in need, but that's what Ive seen. I have a ten year old mastiff mix with osteosarcoma, and not only would they not refill her meds (pain meds as she is in hospice) without an additional $200 appointment, but I called every morning for four days in a row with the promise of a return call, and have yet to hear from them. Dr. Gonzalez was very nice and helpful. I came in for a normal exam which was inexpensive compared to our normal Vet in Virginia Beach. She was kind and had a gentle touch for my demon dog. The receptionist who first welcomed me wasn't very warm, she looked at me as if she didn't know why I was there. Then another receptionist came, very bubbly and made my new transition easier. Overall nice place

We have not lived in Richmond very long so I can't speak to the cost of the care we received as being higher than other vets in the city. I can speak to the care that we received for our 14 year old westie. It was outstanding. We were walk-ins and we were taken in a timely manner. We felt like our dog was treated like we would treat him and the decisions for his care were well made. Dr. Fustukjian was well spoken and very kind. We were very pleased with the care and service we received.

The bottom line is: I would never recommend Lakeside Animal Hospital to anyone. There is not one positive thing I can think of their establishment. I don't think my animals have EVER been seen at their scheduled appointment time and it seems that waiting an hour is the norm there, which is completely unacceptable. They lack both the expertise and equipment necessary to treat their patients and it seems Dr.Gonzalez prefers to just refer you to another doctor rather than actually put in the time and effort needed to treat you... read more

I do not recommend Lakeside to anyone. I have been trying to give them the benefit of the doubt and think of one positive thing to say about them, but I am at a loss. They were impersonal, lacked a sense of urgency and are very money hungry. My dog had not been feeling well so I brought him in one day. I waited for an hour before anyone came out to say anything to me. When they finally did, they explained they were busy and that it would be a little while longer. Dr. Gonzalez is the worst veterinarian that I have ever been to. She saw my 15 year old dog for lameness. I was never called back with my lab results. I called her multiple times and it took her days to call me back. I have asked around since and everyone that I have spoken to with the exception of one person ( they went there once for just vaccines), has had only negative things to say about her and the way she practices medicine.
