Bad Grooming Experience. Facts: 1. We have a dog with longish wavy fur that needed a shape up. 2. I spoke with the groomer about taking 1/2 inch of all around, shaping his face up so he could see better and getting the fur between his pads trimmed. 3. The groomer said she had visited him in day camp, he wasn't that tangled and understood my instructions. 4. Text from groomer around 1:00 pm that there is some matting around his ears and legs that she "was able to work out, but it might take longer." 5. Text at 5:15 that she ... read more

The positives: the care provided was fine although my dog luckily never had any serious health concerns and the vets almost always talked to me like I was 15 years old and an idiot. I was 25. They also were helpful to give on-call advice and weren't always trying to pressure you into a visit (ex. Your dog eats a chocolate bar, and they tell you your dog will be fine and doesn't need to come in). The negatives: the doggy day care allows your dogs out to play only for one hour in the morning/afternoon (depending on the time ... read more

Care first is disorganized (e.g. forgetting to complete all checkups/vaccinations, and then we needed to schedule a follow-up wellness appointment a couple of days later) and it is too expensive. When we requested the results of the heart worm tests for two dogs, we found out that they charged us for tests that they did not complete. We got our money back, but only because we requested records and the results weren't in the records. However, the vets, vet techs, and staff are very nice.

Business response:

Dear Kim E, I am sorry for your having to come back a second time - was it to submit a urine and stool sample? Please call me. Sincerely, Debbie 919-523-0441 Hospital Administrator

CareLESS should be their name. This is a story of slight of hand. We have been going to Carefirst (mostly on Glenwood) for 15 years - they are not the same facility they once were. READ on for full details, but WATCH your bill carefully, they are sneaky and not trustworthy. I'll set the scene - last week, a man walks in and had stepped in fresh dog poop -dragging it into the doorway and even onto the door frame. It was all over the place, he ... read more

This establishment is money hungry and will scam you out of your money DO NOT COME HERE. Our puppy was in distress and had to receive an x-ray on her chest/lung area. Before doing the tests, Dr. Wages brought in an estimate form that detailed what our dog needed to get done and how much the costs would be. The initial cost that we signed off on was $460.00, which included x-rays and the initial check up. The same doctor came back into the waiting room and suggested that we do more x-rays on our dogs abdomen and blood work,... read more

There are much better places to take your pet. The care our pets have received has seemed ok but inconsistent. It seems like the employees don't review or remember our pet's history very often. Even though we've tried to stay with a single vet, and we've scheduled appointments way in advance, we've been bounced from person to person. One of the vets, Dr. Geis, as well as her techs, Taylor and Kate, overcharged us by talking us into several unnecessary tests for our pet. We did what we were told, mostly because we though... read more

The doctors here are great but they honestly have the most incompetent staff imaginable. Leanne particularly.

I have been in Raleigh for 10 years and now have two dogs that I still drive to Greenville to a vet there. When I was wanting to transition to a local vet I called here because my Golden was throwing up and really sick. I took him up there and it was a bad vibe from the moment I walked in even having an appointment. It went from 0-100 real quick when they came back in to tell me he needed bloodwork and x rays and it was serious. So of course I became more anxious. After the x rays they said he needed emergency surgery right ... read more

Business response:

Dear Sarah, Thank you for your feedback. Unfortunately, the email address used to email your pet's records was not correct. To avoid similar events in the future, the process has been enhanced to always copy the client when transmitting medical records via email to another animal hospital. Your pet's record shows a detailed estimate. If there is a suggestion that would make the estimate more clear, and if you would be willing to discuss it, I can be reached on my personal cell at 919-523-0441. Sincerely, Debbie Gordon

We had our kitten boarded at Care First last week, a small mortgage payment later, our kitten was returned home to us with fleas. The doctors had called and told us he had fleas 2 days before we picked him up. We picked him up, and once home immediately noticed he still had fleas. Our kitten should never have been returned if they knew he had fleas. We brought him back to the vet for a bath and they proceeded to try and charge us for the bath and flea medicines, even though they knew he had gotten fleas in their care. We ev... read more

Business response:

Marley was brought in by the pet sitter after staying in the pet sitter's home and was immediately hospitalized in isolation with a respiratory infection. In the spirit of goodwill, Care First Animal Hospital provided free product and services, and as a further extension of goodwill, a refund for the boarding charges totaling $268.00 was mailed to the address on file.
