Both Dr. FitzSimons and Dr. Heather Harkins are amazing. We have had as many as 10 cats and they have helped us keep them well. Our last cat died, but Dr. Harkins worked so hard to keep him alive. She really cared about him and how much this was affecting me. There is not much more to add except to agree with all of the positive remarks of the other reviews. I am totally happy with Cumming Veterinary Clinic. The staff is wonderful! Dr. FitzSimons is kind and willing to to work financially with patients on a case by c... read more
I first met Dr. FitzSimons a social function with some friends. In casual conversation I asked him why he decided to become a vet and his response was along the lines of him having enough training to become an MD, but feeling that animals were more worthy of his time than people because that's what he loves. My sister was a vet tech and had trained me on what to look for in a vet and Jim met all of the qualifications. I was looking for a vet at the time and even-though I lived in Norcross at the time the drive was worth ... read more
We recently moved from the Virginia Highland neighborhood in Atlanta to Cumming. Although we've all been quite happy with this move, no one is happier than our four-legged son! We had been taking him to what is, supposedly, one of the best veterinary clinics in Atlanta, and we were always happy with our service. We planned to keep using this vet, but knew we needed to find some local options in case of emergency. Emergency eventually struck last night in the form of a horrendous ear infection that left us all without sleep... read more
Great Vet ! Dr Harkins & Dr Fitzimmons are fabulous. We love them taking care of our doggies. The staff is so nice and it is always clean and welcoming. We have used them from the moment we got a new puppy to our last dog's fight with cancer. They treat our dogs like family.
We were visiting from out of state when our dog suddenly developed a large mass near his tail. Based on the previous reviewer's comments, we chose this clinic and are so happy we did! The clinic receptionist was great. We were seen within an hour of our phone call (maybe that was just pure luck!) and were seen promptly once we arrived. The hospital is AAHA-accredited, which is a MUST in our book. This ensures they follow the best practices of the American Animal Hospital Association's guidelines for everything from patie... read more
Our family dog, Sadie, had been a patient of Dr. FitzSimons for years. She recently passed away in March and I can tell you that Dr. FitzSimons and his staff were the reason that she did live a very good life for so long. His team was always there for her care, always so professional and caring. When the time came to put Sadie to sleep, his staff made everything so much easier. Dr. FitzSimon's focus was on Sadie's quality of life, but also he knew how painful it was for us to lose a family member. After Sadie had been gone, ... read more
I had to leave this clinic. It was the most outrageous experience I've ever had with any vet at any time in my life. I am 74 and I've had many many dogs and cats and birds. Do not go to this place. Dr. Martinez left. There is an outrageous attitude there and I believe it starts at the top. I now use Creekside animal clinic and have been very happy there for the last three years. Dr. Julie is so wonderful. You are making a big mistake if you use Cumming Vet veterinary clinic.
I brought my dog, Marley, to Cummings Veterinary Clinic for a rhinoscopy after noticing a little discharge from her left nostril. Dr. FitzSimons informed me that some bleeding might occur after the procedure but failed to explain the potential for profuse bleeding and prolonged pain. At no point was I adequately informed that Marley could suffer such extreme symptoms in the days following the procedure. The risks were grossly understated, and the information provided was misleading at best. Two days after the rhinoscopy, Ma... read more
Business response:
First, please accept our deepest condolences for the loss of Marley. We understand how much she meant to you, and we are truly sorry for the grief you are experiencing. Losing a beloved companion is always painful, and we recognize how difficult this time must be for you. We also want to take a moment to address the concerns you raised regarding Marley’s procedure and the time that followed. The rhinoscopy that was performed was a minimally invasive procedure. It involved passing a thin camera into the nasal passages so the... read more
They charged me $50 for a 6 minute phone consult for a cat that I had rescued and was fostering. I'm a client of theirs for 18 years! This was the last straw.
Business response:
We apologize for the mishandling of this. This is not how we handle our phone consultations. A new staff member who was unfamiliar with the process handled this incorrectly. As I stated in our phone call I looked into this and have ensured that the staff member knows how to handle these situations in the future. Again, we apologize for the mishandling, and we appreciate your trust in us over the past 18 years.
