Male dr completely misdiagnosed our puppy with a sprain and "bad knees." Had us convinced she'd need thousands of dollars in surgery to correct the issue. Turns out she had broken her leg, and will now have growth plate issues due to misdiagnosis. Clearly reading xrays isn't his strong suit, as the specialist we then went to saw her break on the X-ray (and said her knees were perfect). The female vet is condensing and won't give you the time of day. The techs are fantastic, and we will miss them. The vets not so much.
Thanks to everyone at Harvey Animal "Hospital" for making our family pet's final moments on earth a horrible, stressful and painful experience for everyone involved. Staff acted as if they had never euthanized a dog before, and were unable to handle a 14 year old blind and deaf dog that could barely move. I had to take control of the situation after they repeatedly failed to insert the needle properly, causing needless suffering and confusion. They are good at one thing, though. They're very quick to run your credit card a... read more
If I could select (0) stars, I would!!!! I explained the issue of my dog's injury, that he had a limp and an injury to his paw which was bleeding days prior from something he may have come across outside. The vet determined within 5 minutes of being in the room with him, that he needed to be sedated in order to examine the injury and to give him his vaccinations. My dog was completely traumatized by the experience, including being muzzled. Harvey Animal Hospital caused such a high level of anxiety sedation process did not ... read more
I was out in California working. My 24 year old son called crying and in a panic. He was so scared because something was wrong with my Mini Rex bunny. My bunny is only 1.5 years old and my baby!! My son said... she kept falling over, falling on her face, couldn't move, growling, snorting... something was wrong. He said it was so sad watching her like that. He was so scared she might have had a heartache that paralyzed her legs. He immediately called me and I immediately called Harvey's. I explained to the receptionist (in te... read more
We took our malamute in for hot spots. The doctor gave her a cortisone injection and some antibiotics, she also insisted we do a fecal and sold me on a year's worth of hearworm meds, all to the tune of almost $400. The meds for the hot spots did not help, I just called to tell them that our dog is worse than ever. They said to bring her in for another appointment for another $41.80. If I am going to pay for a new consultation, I will find a new vet. This place is just looking to help their cash flow. I would definitely NOT r... read more
Our dog mis-diagnosed in February by the Harvey Animal Hospital (Dr. Coll) with "fatty-deposits" and "arthritis". Because of this, he suffered another month and a half when we knew in our hearts it was time to put him down. It became clear to us that the Harvey Animal Hospital is driven by money rather than compassion. I will never forget that day as we had the intentions of putting him down. The family had all said their goodbyes. After a very short exam, Dr. Coll started convincing me that we should put him on pain meds a... read more
Prior to the new ownership, this was a 5 star Veterinarian in my opinion. It seems that the current owners are more interested in selling you yearly pet care packages and medications than the condition of your pet. I agree with most of the previous reviews that the bottom line is more important than your pet with this Veterinarian. I now go to a Birmingham, MI Veterinarian with prices far more reasonable and 5 star care.
Terrible Terrible!! We have been with Harvey Animal Hospital for over 30 years and have been extremely happy with every Dr. that has taken over the practice, until now. When my husband forgot his wallet the office said they would keep our dog until he returned to pay the bill!!!! We always pay after appointments, never have a balance and have been regular clients for over 30 years. This is an office that only cares about meeting monthly production goals. The staff is new and very rude. We have been charged full price for nail... read more
We loved this vet when it was owned by the previous owners. Now it feels like the new owner is just trying to make money off of the Grosse Pointe clientele. You can't even call and ask a vet tech a question, they want you to come in for everything. And they recommend non-core vaccines that your pet probably doesn't need living in the GP area. I will go to Platz, they love animals there and you can always call and ask a question/get basic advice for minor things.
Business response:
I'm sorry that you didn't get the level of care you expected when you called the practice. We try to help whenever you call but unfortunately we can't usually diagnose or treat problems over the phone. We do recommend seeing pets whenever you are concerned enough to call with a problem. We also offer wellness plans that provide free exams so there is not a financial barrier for you to bring them in. We do recommend non core vaccines after a discussion with you about the risks that your pet is exposed to. This decision is... read more
