I had a situation Monday where my fur baby lost the use of her front paws. At around 7PM she also lost her use of her rear paws and started mewling like she was in constant pain. All nourishment I was giving with a syringe.
Living in Texas and visiting my 95 year old mother in San Mateo County, California, I knew that Muffin was not having a shred of quality life.
I called North Peninsula Veterinary Emergency Clinic Tuesday morning and requested information about helping Muffin cross the rainbow bridge. Since I no longer wanted Muffin to suffer, I took a cab to the Emergency clinic.
I was guided into the euthanasia room (it was a comfortable room with regular furniture and no exam table along with lights that dimmed. After filling out the paperwork the nurse came in to take Muffin so she could start the IV line. When she brought Muffin back she agreed that I had made the best choice possible for Muffin
At no time was I made to feel rushed or that Muffin was a "number". The vet came in and said I could have as much time as I needed. I could see the pain in Muffin's face so my only acceptable response was that since Muffin was in such pain, we cannot in good conscience make her wait.
The vet then spoke to Muffin telling her she would feel warmth. Once Muffin received her 2nd shot, the vet monitored her heart and advised when her heart had stopped beating.
I held Muffin and was trying to take one last picture when the vet offered to take the picture for me.
Yesterday I received the nicest condolence card from the Emergency Clinic staff. Everyone I came in contact with at the ER clinic was extremely compassionate and welcoming.
I highly recommend this Emergency Clinic to anyone who lives in or near San Mateo, California or who may be visiting and have a need for an emergency vet.
A huge shout out of gratitude for the staff and the doctor who have all left me with an extremely warm fuzzy on how you all interacted with Muffin on Tuesday, November 12, 2019
