About this business

HealthcareVeterinarians

Metropolitan Veterinary Center was established in 2012 by Dr. Kjerstin Jacobs. She founded the practice based on her observation that there was an unmet need for high-quality, reasonably priced medical and surgical care for Chicago’s beloved pets, not only on weekdays but on weekends and late evenings as well.

**Beware of Dr Balser** **Beware is Unnecessary Procedures** I've been coming to Metro Vet for 3 years now, and it has definitely changed in a horrible way. The fact that Dr Balser is allowed to handle animals & speak the way she does to pet owners is an outrage. There should never ever be a time in which I'm pressured over & over & over & over again to stick a needle in my dog's BLADDER to get urine when it DEFINITELY can be procured through normal urination. Keep in mind that my dog is healthy, and this was merely a wellne... read more

I will say that the front desk staff/techs are great, and I appreciate the hard work I've seen from all of them; that being said... I can hardly express my disappointment in the care and negligence that we experienced from Dr. Balser at Metropolitan Veterinary Center. My dog Molly is a patient here and I brought her in when she was under the weather with stomach issues (she has acute pancreatitis), had a full blood panel and imaging done by a vet on staff that evening, and $800 later left with medication and treatment for Mo... read more

I want to like Metropolitan Veterinary Center but, unfortunately, I have no confidence in the staff nor the veterinarians that work there. My first experience with Metropolitan Veterinary was in 2016. I took my pet for a check-up and testing and was told by both veterinarians and their assistants that my pet was fine. I left the Metropolitan Veterinary Center for home. After I reached my home, I received a call from Metropolitan Veterinary Center that one of the tests came back positive. I had to go back and get the appropri... read more

We've been taking our dog there for 3 years, since we got her from the rescue. Our experiences with Metro Vet have been as good as can be, no matter what time or issue we've taken her in for. They have a bunch of excellent vets, and being open late has made it easy to schedule an appointment.

My cat was extremely sick (walking like a drunk sailor) so I called for an appt. I was told the soonest I could bring him in was the following evening. I explained that I didn't think he would live that long. I was told matter of factly, "go to an emergency vet." Thankfully, I found a local vet with more compassion and was told to bring my cat in immediately. Turns out he has Feline Urinary Syndrome. I was told he was in very bad shape. They are keeping him for a few days. I am hoping he will pull through but won't know for ... read more

I switched Vet/Clinic due to my older fur baby having a cancerous tumor and wanted another opinion. I met with Dr. Balser and she explained everything from A-Z. I loved her approach and sincerity to my baby's treatment. The staff was fantastic, free parking available, and the clinic is super clean. My heart is happy that I found a full service animal hospital with loving and caring Dr.'s and staff. I definitely recommend them to anyone with a fur baby.

I usually use a different vet, but when our little dog was attacked by a bigger dog on Sunday afternoon, ours was closed, so we brought Boo-Boo here. And they accepted him as a walk-in, and quickly took him in. The techs got him situated quickly, and the vet (June LaFave VMD) took care of him. Check-up, xrays , stitches and wrapped up, excellent care, and obviously cared about how we were concerned. So we might start coming here now, given their extensive hours (7am -10pm 7-days a week) But excellent care and consideration g... read more

I love the hours; open 7 days a week and late is very helpful with my work schedule. Receptionists are always super friendly and have a smile on their face. The nurses and veterinarians are all incredibly knowledgeable and experienced. I am very pleased with this clinic!

I called to transfer my cat's vet care and made the mistake of saying that I needed a second opinion. I had moved and needed a closer vet, in addition, my cat seemed to potentially be experiencing recurring symptoms of something he had a few months ago (not been back since) so I needed him to be seen by a Dr. The clinic said they would have to charge this as a second opinion, asking for $120 dollars for the visit (instead of the typical $68, so $50 to "review past medical records"). My cat's issue isn't anything serious and ... read more
