Metropolitan Veterinary Center was established in 2012 by Dr. Kjerstin Jacobs. She founded the practice based on her observation that there was an unmet need for high-quality, reasonably priced medical and surgical care for Chicago’s beloved pets, not only on weekdays but on weekends and late evenings as well.

Thank goodness for Dr. Jacobs and the other fantastic doctors and loyal staff at Metropolitan Veterinary Center! A new pup mom I was nervous having my one year-old Shih Tzu go in for surgery... Dr. Jacobs consoled me providing complete details of the diagnosis and surgery... Staff called me immediately after surgery to let me know of the successful result/follow-up. First thing next morning who calls but Dr. Jacobs herself to check on my little boy! Yes this is the kind of trusting open relationship with their vets I love an... read more
I was so upset that this office denied me service for my sick cat. I was told I had to schedule an appointment that would be in a week, so I agreed even though my cat needed to be seen sooner. Then the receptionist said that I had to pay $75.00 for an appointment. That was a punch below the belt for me. How can you not show any concern about someones pet and most of all charge for an appointment? I wouldn't recommend this place to an enemy! You should be ashamed of yourselves!
I brought my two Bengal kittens here. I was told I could go in with the cats, but that's the whole truth. They brought us to a room, but took my kitten to another room, saying due to COVID, only the doc and assistant can be in the same room. But I later found out almost entire vet office were at the backroom where they took my kitten to, and do what? Taking pictures!! And me as a owner (with mask on) couldn't go in? They overcharged me by forgetting that I already paid for the $75 deposit too. But the worst thing was they ga... read more
Our puppy has been is clear discomfort and chewing at her leg for over a month now. We have been calling nonstop and been to the office multiple times to get this looked at. She also has an obvious vaginal infection that has also been down played. This vet has repeatedly dismissed her issues and now has a massive wound on her leg and her infection has become severe. They have charged us an asinine amount of money just to continually ignore our issues. I feel scammed at the expense of my puppies health. These are common and s... read more
My dog is limping, and he's in pain, you can't squeeze him in until 10 days from now? I try to understand. $85 non-refundable deposit to give me an appointment 10 days away? No thank you! Suggestion, when dealing with pets, have an office person with compassion who can show empathy, and reconsider your policies.
During the past fourteen years of mothering my beautiful sophisticated glamorous puggle Gwendolyn, I encountered many doctors for Gwendolyn's care. But it took until finding Dr. Balser of Metropolitan Veterinary Center to recognise the perfect recipe of intelligence, kindness, intuitiveness, and loveliness. When Gwendolyn and I moved to Chicago three years ago, it was my first objective to find a holistic-minded veterinarian. Dr. Balser was suggested by the AHVMA. During the first examination of my Gwendolyn, the manner in w... read more
I took my dog in Monday to have testing done (almost $400) . That same day they called me to let me know, they forgot to get a urine sample. So I brought him back in. On Wednesday they encouraged me to bring him in to get his blood pressure taken, why wasn't this done Monday either time I took him in? And to ask if I brought a stool sample, that we had taken in 4-5 hours before. Another $64 for a technician visit for them to check his blood pressure. And he was very anxious on the way home! Expensive and very disorganized! W... read more
Excellent caring veterinarians who listen and recommend the appropriate care! I have gone to Metro Vet since I moved to the South Loop in August 2015. I recommend them to everyone who asks for a vet locally. I have seen most of the vets in the practice, but my faves are Dr Jacobs and Dr Balser. Generally we see them for routine care, but my Jackson has had some other issues. He has a chronic seasonal bronchitis that happens about the same time each year. Dr Jacobs listened to his history and suggested a treatment regimen tha... read more
Caution: Highway Robbery! First time dropping my cat here for boarding due to late scheduling with the regular place, Burnham Park Animal Hospital. First off, MetVet charges $72 per day of overnight boarding. This is almost 3x as much as BPAH. When I asked why it costs so much more. They responded that's just their flat fee. So no satisfactory explanation to justify the cost. And because my cat is on Rx diet, I even had to bring in my own supply of food. So that was over $500 plus my own food for 7 days' stay. That's more co... read more
