Metropolitan Veterinary Center was established in 2012 by Dr. Kjerstin Jacobs. She founded the practice based on her observation that there was an unmet need for high-quality, reasonably priced medical and surgical care for Chicago’s beloved pets, not only on weekdays but on weekends and late evenings as well.

They ran tests that were redundant and ran up the bill when I was already paying for cheaper, more precise lab work - raised the bill an extra $43 for no reason. They followed up on tests, didn't read my file, questioned why I even brought my dog in, had no idea what the problem actually was. Edit: They did follow up on this review and were very kind and did take the time to try and talk through the things that weren't discussed during the follow up to the tests. It was appreciated they took the time for this and does show t... read more
Castiel had his very first visit to the Veterinarian. He was such a good boy. Overall good experience at Metropolitan Veterinary Center. Our Vet was very thorough and nice.
Not my regular vet, but I brought my dog in right away on a Sunday at 7am as my other vet was closed. I was very worried about my pup so I called right when they opened (the 7am-10pm hours 7 days a week are amazing) and even without an appointment they were able to see me right away. The staff was super friendly and helpful, and the doctor spent a good amount of time examining my dog. She talked me through everything (tests, X-rays, etc) before they were done to make sure I was kept informed. It was pricey, but for everythin... read more
I was sitting at home petting my dog at 830pm and noticed a lump on her neck. I thought it was a clump of matted fur. So I get my phone flashlight to look, and after parting the hair I see a HUMUNGOUS tick on her. She's a shiba so her fur is very thick, so it's not that easy to notice things. I've been going to South Loop Animal hospital for over 7 years now, but they were closed for the day. I gave Metro Vet a call and 15 minutes later I was walking in their door. Less than 10 minutes later I leave with a tick-free dog. The... read more
We got a new puppy and brought him here for his first vet visit. We got an appointment right away, the staff were very friendly and informative. They made out first visit so easy. I'm so happy we found this place in the neighborhood and we definitely will continue to bring him here for future visits.
I can't recommend this clinic enough!! When I was having food allergy issues with a newly adopted kitty, I first took him to another vet who pumped him full of meds, rushed through the exam in 10 min., charged me $200, and said, "Call me in a week." I did NOT call that vet back, but instead found MetroVet. My first appointment was 45 minutes long, and Dr. Balser didn't leave until she was sure all my questions were answered. We came up with a treatment plan (that would only include meds if absolutely necessary!), and they ch... read more
I do regular physical checkups and vaccines for my kitty here. Welcoming environment and nice staffs. Also I am very satisfied with my recent experience bringing my kitten for diarrhea treatment. The vet was professional and didn't send any unnecessary treatments. At the time I brought her, the vet said she can feel the hard poops in my kitten's intestine, and also taught me how to feel the poops so I can do on my own. I would like to highly recommend this hospital and it is reasonable that they got over 200 review and almos... read more
Took care of my German Shepard mix and didn't push filling my prescription there.
I live far north in the city but when my beloved pitbull started limping exaggeratedly on a Sunday I looked for any vet available. I was very lucky and extremely pleased to come to the Metropolitan Vet Center. While a bit more pricey than my current family vet, it was beautiful, clean and every person I encountered from the staff and the wonderful Dr. Jacobs was amazing. Would highly recommend!
